End of 2025 Season - Letter from the President

As our season comes to a close, I want to extend my sincere thanks to each of you for making this year one of energy, community, and remarkable sportsmanship. Whether you played in league matches, joined our socials, volunteered at events, or simply enjoyed time on the courts with friends, your enthusiasm is what keeps our club thriving. Our courts were full, our programs were well-attended, and the sense of camaraderie was felt throughout the club.  The smiles and laughter that fill our courts every week are the best possible reminder of the positive community that is Meadowwood.

This season brought many highlights: a 65th anniversary celebration in May; spring pickleball clinics; competitive match play as our teams competed in the Trillium League; ongoing player development with our pros; spring and summer house leagues; and an impressive turnout at the September tournaments.

Membership in 2025 also grew 10% to 486 members, a level that represents club capacity going forward.  To ensure an enjoyable experience for all players and to support fair court access, we cap registration so that tennis and pickleball membership remains at a 50/50 ratio.

Each year, we look for meaningful ways to enhance the club experience. In 2025, we added a new AED/First Aid station and installed new court-divider curtains.  We were also delighted to receive a generous gift in October:  new heavy-duty windscreens that will benefit all members; and tennis court scoring equipment.  Looking ahead to 2026, the Board will be exploring several initiatives including: providing South Gate access for all members; bringing in City water; and assessing the feasibility of a member-access camera so players can conveniently check court conditions.

An important ongoing concern for the Club has been the rapid deterioration of the court surface.  After two years of ongoing discussions with the City, the Board was recently informed that the courts are scheduled to be repaired and resurfaced next spring once weather stabilizes.  This work comes in response to the issues that stemmed from the substandard resurfacing completed in September 2022, followed by additional repairs in spring 2023 at substantial cost to the Club.  The cost of this resurfacing project will be fully funded by the City.

At the 2025 Annual General Meeting, attending membership voted in the following:  Ted Dziedzic (Vice Chair, 2 year term); Mary Manarin (Treasurer, 2 year term); Jeff Tsuji (Director at Large, 1 year term); and Dave Thompson (Director at Large, 1 year term).  Joyce Bish (Chair) and Tracy Danbrook (Secretary) are midway through a 2 year term that expires in Nov 2026.

I am especially grateful to our dedicated volunteers, session convenors, and our board members whose time, commitment, and behind-the-scenes efforts ensured that everything ran smoothly throughout the season.

Together we enjoyed another truly memorable season.  The energy, enthusiasm, and camaraderie you bring to Meadowwood transform it from a simple place to play tennis or pickleball into something far more special.  It is a place where friendships grow and memories take shape.  Here connections are built, experiences are shared, and each moment on the court builds the incredible community spirit that makes our Club unique.

I wish you a healthy, active winter and look forward to welcoming you back when the courts reopen in the spring.

Warm Regards,

Joyce Bish

President
